i`ve tru do define an .hgignore, but it looks like dont matter anything.
it now contais:
.hgigonre
glob:.hg*
glob:*.bak
glob:*~bak
glob:*.tmp
glob:*.o
glob:*.ppu
glob:*.ppw

and hg stat reports:
D:\pas.hg>hg stat                
? .hgignore                      
? source\.hgignore               
? source\.hgstat                 
? source\Bitmaps.pp.orig         
? source\IEEE754.pas.orig        
? source\STREAMS.PAS             
? source\colors\ColorSystems.bak 
? source\colors\ColorSystems.o   
? source\colors\ColorSystems.ppu 
? source\colors\RGBHSL.bak       

the same occured in windows, cygwin and msys
