[PATCH 0 of 2] win32text: small cleanup; revert to \0 check in entire string (#1066)

Hello,

According to issue 1066 util.binary is not a thorough enough test
for the win32text extension.

These patches revert to previous behaviour without backing out
the code cleanups.
