[issue975] hgignore on Mac - file too long?

New submission from Ralph H Castain <rhc at lanl.gov>:

Hg version: 0.9.1
System: Mac OS-X 10.4.11 (as well as 10.5.x)

We are trying Hg for use in the Open MPI project. Several of us are now using it
on a variety of platforms, and are generally quite pleased.

However, we have discovered something problematic in the behavior of the
.hgignore file. Specifically, on Mac OS-X, it appears that there is some limit
on the number of lines that can be in the .hgignore file. We find that a file on
Linux does not exhibit this limit - we can create an arbitrarily long file and
have Hg correctly ignore all the entries.

However, on the Mac, anything after about 460 lines gets ignored. The precise
cutoff point escapes me at the moment - we have done some experimentation to
determine it - but it is something close to that number.

Is this a known problem? Any suggestions on a potential fix?

I have attached our .hgignore file in case you can see something we should do
differently.

Appreciate any help!
Ralph
