The old saw about 'lies, damn lies, and benchmarks' is still true.  
The issue at hand was the publication of this 'benchmark' for Bazaar.  
It proves that Bazaar is definitely improving, but I don't see a  
major reason for switching to it.

I rate ergonomics, reliability and reasonable speed over repository  
size any day (within reasonable limits :-) ). I'm sure I could have  
tweaked things to create a more favorable outcome for whichever  
system I prefer this week.
