licensing issues with gpl3 due to the gpl2only limitation

I'll keep license discussions off - I just got incited to answer by the "camp" 
analogies and by my feeling that the "strategic" sentence seemed very easy to 
misunderstand. 

The license is the programmers choice (must be GPLv2 compatible, though, since 
essential parts of the code are GPLv2 only) and yours as current maintainer. 

I provided the input of which I hoped that it would be useful for making the 
decision, but ultimately it's your decision, and as long as no new important 
information appears I'll try to keep it at that (and avoid discussing already 
discussed things).
