[issue1352] The pros and cons of git patch format should be documented

Currently neither the man page nor the --help text of the various
commands offering the --git option explain (all) the merits of the git
format (copy/rename history, handling of binary files, what else?).

There should be central documentation of the pros and cons of the
extended git format and --help texts should point to it for reference.
