This is bollocks re your prob, sorry.
I gather you're on 10.3, I never had this prob with an additional
python in /usr/local on MacOS X < 5, so I guess this was due to
the fact that I set PYTHONPATH in /private/etc/bashrc, and
sourced the bashrc from /private/etc/profile.
Again, sorry, but I'm still knackered from the nasty surprises
from upgrading to 10.5 (the /usr/libexec/path_helper
inconsistencies etc.)
