I did not plan to bring this up before 1.3 since the obvious focus these
days will be the upcoming release rather than novelties, but I have been
working on the support for translating manpages.

The plan is to use po4a [1] to generate pot/po files from the sources of
our documentation, allowing usual gettext translation, along with gendoc.py
providing localized content from the already existing translation of hg.

For the moment I have it written for our asciidoc sources (but asciidoc
support requires po4a 0.35 or greater, which is too recent to be shipped
with distribs like Debian stable). Of course nroff has long been supported,
so switching would not be a problem. ReST is not, though (but for any Perl
coder, I guess adding a ReST module to po4a might not be a big deal, if
necessary).
