Excellent summary, thanks. Frankly, both ways seem to have serious
shortcomings. It might actually be worth considering a possibility
I've been ruling out: falling back to a server when we hit a corner
case.
Let's give some thought to what a system without these issues (if it's
possible) would look like and if there's any way to get there from
here.
