so in 4 years after all the debian distros have updated, i won't have
this problem. good to hear.

sorry about the sarcasm, but distros and users are not fast at
updating. and the problem would happen if i decided to time travel or
somehow reenroll in undergraduate studies and use a system where for
some reason the admin had some preferences.

it's true that in most cases one can negotiate with administrators,
but in practice, it isn't worth it. you just grin and bare it.

in my case, having the scars from these experiences, i try to
discourage the system designers (that's you) from enabling the admins
from shooting me in my feet.
