Trying to design around something as broken as Notepad is indeed futile
(a toy editor which inserts BOM's whenever it feels like it).

Especially combined with something as avant-garde-ish as Mercurial.

As such I found the "piece of crap" honor well deserved :)

I use Notepad++ for a reason. And even the visual studio editor is
in the acceptable league.
