Is there a way to configure this extension such that "text files" 
automatically become native while doing the right thing with binary files?

For reference, 
http://www.zope.org/DevHome/Subversion/SubversionConfigurationForLineEndings 
has a little information about how subversion can be so configured. 
This has worked very well in my experience with subversion - a simple, 
default configuration gives the correct result in 100% of cases in my 
experience, while leaving very little risk a file with a "new" extension 
(ie, one that doesn't match a specific pattern) will be treated incorrectly.
