Well, as I mentioned in my reply to Matt, PyPy doesn't yet run  
Mercurial faster than CPython. On my Mac, verify the Mercurial  
repository with CPython takes ~10 seconds with the C modules and ~20  
seconds in a pure Python build. PyPy takes ~40 seconds. The PyPy  
project is still relatively immature, and they're likely to get faster  
as time goes on.
