Rename Makefile to GNUMakefile? (was: Re: compiling on FreeBSD)

The man page uses 'GNUmakefile' but it seems to be not a
very popular solution.

Or put some kind of check in Makefile that tells people to use GNU make if

 the required features are not available?

That may be the easiest/best solution.
