No, sorry, I didn't :-(

I (re?)produced a couple of failures on linux when running with 
--tmpdir=/tmp/foo/bar/baz/the/brown/fox/jumps/over/the/slashes/into/a/deep/structure/just/like/on/a/mac 
, but most of these were also present before my changes so the failures 
you see must be something else.

I have pushed these fixes and will find a mac and debug the others later.
