Who's the owner of the google groups?
If allowing posts is an issue, then maybe set this groups to an
announce mode only, disallowing all new posts to @googlegroups.com ?
The description could be updated as well, to explain that it's not
only a mirror, but that interested parties should direct emails to the
@selenic.com address?
