This is less desirable since fingerprints would then be limited to one local repository and would not work in other clones of that repository or sibling repositories on 
the same server. Appending to ~/.hgrc would seem more natural to me, though I understand there is a longstanding resistance to do this in Mercurial (Git seems OK writing 
to its ini-style config file).
