I think you’ll already have that, when your guide gets linked to by the main
Mercurial site. This will drive up your google ranking, and the need of
everyone else who uses it to name you as primary author gives you additional
credit.

And don’t forget that you can easily use all adaptions other people make. With
the GPL, the others would have to offer you the sources (since the HTML form is
a compiled form of the text sources and not just the output of a program).

When you manage to make yourselves the first point of contact for these guides
(for example by being linked from the Mercurial site, but also by virtue of
having the additional credit of being the primary authors) this can get more
and more people to your site.

One thing is important, though: When people come to your site and read the
guide, every single page should have an unobstrusive but clearly visible
incentive to give you money for personal support.

For example a footer like “If you prefer to learn Mercurial from the primary
authors of this guide, or if you want Mercurial training or migration-support
in your company, please contact…”.

This says “we are the primary authors” (by copyright law no one else is
allowed to claim that regardless of the license) and it gives an incentive to
follow up on the free guide with money.

Best wishes,
Arne
