[issue2679] path: pattern support in .hgignore

Path patterns are not recognised in .hgignore (mercurial 1.8; mac + win). This 
makes accurately excluding files in the hg root directory rather awkward. 
Compare the alternatives:

glob patterns - cannot be anchored in the root directory.
regexp patterns - anchoring needs to be explicit; . is a special character and 
needs to be escaped.
