Yes, both failures were highly reproducible for me with Python 2.6.6
(Ubuntu 10.10).  But Matt said he did not see it with an older Python.

Matt, what version do you have?  Does David's patch now break the
tests for you?  Ping...pong...ping...pong... ;-)
