[issue2737] Append an ellipsis on long commit messages

I think it would be helpful for the user experience that long commit messages 
(which get cut off) had an ellipsis at the end to indicate that the message 
continues.
I tend to try and convey this by manually adding '(more)' more or less where 
I think that the message will be cut off, but it's a very crude method.
