Thanks, but ... this ends up being some very specific customizations. 
And there is no end to how many details in the hgweb ui that could be 
made configurable this way. I don't think we need this extra complexity.

The hgweb 'style' templates should also be seen as a kind of 
configuration. The templating "language" is very stable, so it should be 
absolutely ok to take a copy and customize it ... or keep the changes in 
a branch in a Mercurial repo and merge with changes released upstream.
