The communication with the daemon is probably the easiest problem to fix.

The extension has several bugs that make it unusable and they're not easy
to fix, especially if you're not familiar with Mercurial internals. I'd
advise to
look at the current implementation to understand what you're up against
(last time I looked it wasn't an easy task).
