I finally got my site extension working again with 2.3+, also tested with 2.4-rc.
It allows pushing Mercurial repositories to dumb FTP servers including
an infosite in BitBucket style (but not yet looking good) and fork
information which can tie together any kind of hosting service.
Cloning has to be done over http, though (you need an existing http
server). This makes Mercurial hosting available to anyone who can get
free FTP access with static HTTP somewhere.
$ hg push [-f] --sitename "sitename" ftp://user:email@example.com/path/to/dir
→ that’s how this site gets created.
With -f it is reuploaded completely,
otherwise only the changes get uploaded.
defining the ftp://… in [paths] in .hg/hgrc works.
