The best way for you to establish that you'd be a good mentor would be to
start contributing patches to either Mercurial or TortoiseHg. It's fine
that you're an unknown quantity to us, but that would need to change before
we could hope to ask you to help out. A good mentor will actually
understand the workings of the project they're mentoring a student on, or
else the student is very likely to have a poor experience.
