          Priority: normal
            Bug ID: 4065
                CC: mercurial-devel at selenic.com
          Assignee: bugzilla at selenic.com
           Summary: Always use 3-part versions
          Severity: feature
    Classification: Unclassified
                OS: Linux
          Reporter: john.peacock at messagesystems.com
          Hardware: PC
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
           Version: 2.8-rc
         Component: Mercurial
           Product: Mercurial

It would be really helpful to people who repackage Mercurial (even internally)
if you would always use a 3-part version, i.e. 2.8.0 vs 2.8. A lot of
packaging software treats versions with only a single decimal as if it was a
floating point number for sorting purpose. Committing to following Semantic
Versioning http://semver.org/ means there is no possible reason for confusion.

Internally, I wind up having to unpack the tarball and renaming the directory
before generating my RPM's.

Thanks
