The only difference from v2 is that it is rebased onto the latest evolve 
test changes, and I tweaked the commit message in the test to 
automatically put in the proper parent hash, so the test isn't 
accidentally broken in the future.

Note that evolve 5d063fed9e3d requires a pending hg series[1] to run the 
tests cleanly, therefore this does too.
