The mercurial-devel audience might not be interested, but if you are
interested, you should work on it.

If you do `PURE=--pure make local`, a Mercurial clone can be run-in
place, without needing to compile anything. A simple `make local` will
also compile things. This "installation" of Mercurial can be put
anywhere.
