It'd be more helpful if the error message

    waiting for lock on repository /path/to/repo held by '[...]'

would contain a hint how to deal with the situation

    waiting for lock on repository /path/to/repo held by '[...]' (remove
/path/to/repo/store/lock if you're certain that no other instances are
accessing the repository)
