Well, the wording I used is not about grammatical number, but about
explicitly saying "did you mean this particular and specific one, or
one of those?" Your rewording is unconditionally using English plural,
which would be tricky to do l10n for correctly.

I think it may be easier for a translator to handle "one out of the
following list of more than one thing" than trying to figure out what
to do with a plural.
