Crash during hg-check

Tortoisehg crashed during an amend.  Now many Mercurial commands crash
with the attached error.  Further, trying to 'hg up branch', where branch
contains the commit I was amending, responds "abort: unknown revision
'branch'"!

The output of hg verify in this repository is:

hg verify

checking manifests
crosschecking files in changesets and manifests
checking files
16571 files, 25751 changesets, 106311 total revisions

This is with Mercurial 3.4 distributed by Ubuntu.
