No, no progress. At the earliest, it will happen after rename and
after the 0.8 release.
Symlinks are a low priority, at least for me. They're handy, but you
can always do things like generate them in your Makefile. There are a
number of popular SCMs and even entire operating systems that get
along fine without them.
