merge vs. "update -m" and working with a remote repository

This makes me wondering if it is good to have two different commands  
which have exactly the same effect (this reminds me of something... ;).

Offering multiple alternatives for doing the same thing is somewhat  
confusing, so I would suggest to deprecate "update -m" in favor of  
"merge".
