That would indeed be helpfull.

Well, none of my networks have a machine called "mail". IMHO, localhost
is the only sane host name that you can expect to be available everywhere.
Moreover, it is quite common in the UNIX world to have a local smtp
server on every computers, that acts as a simple relay to the real
smtp server.
Anyway, that's not very important as long as notify is verbose enough.
