I (personally) absolutely agree with everything you say here.  Mercurial
is much easier.  Unfortunately, I am but one in a  larger group of 
developers
that are using Arch and making very good use of its branching capabilities.
For better or worse, for me to be able to "sell" Mercurial, I must be able
to demonstrate a similar level of capability.  I'm having trouble doing 
that not
because Mercurial can't necessarily do what is needed but because I don't
know how to do it...
