What this is waiting for is for someone to authoritatively say this is
the right thing to do. Ironically, the most authoritative person on
the subject here is probably Lee, by virtue of maintaining the Windows

So, Lee, do you still think this is the right fix? If so, we'll take
it until someone convinces us otherwise.
