You're correct, it's not a matter of anyone being older or more senile, or 
anything of that nature. It's a matter of how smoothly one can switch among 
various VCSes. Those of us who learned other VCSes before starting with 
Mercurial have had our expectations set by them and have been surprised by the 
different behavior of the 'add' command. If one has to switch among various 
VCSes on a daily basis, the difference in behavior is a constant source of 
confusion.

This isn't a fatal problem, but neither is it one to be dismissed lightly.
