Why does OS X installer require MacPython?

The prepackaged installers for Mac OS X at <http://mercurial.berkwood.com/
 > are useful, but they require you to first install the MacPython
package. This seems unnecessary, since OS X already comes with Python
installed (version 2.4, as of OS X 10.4; soon to be 2.5 when OS X 10.5
"Leopard" ships.)

(Personally, I don't want to have two different installations of
Python on my machine. I've done so in the past, but it leads to
confusion. So I was unable to take advantage of easy Mercurial
installation and had to build it myself.)

Could the Mercurial packages be changed to install into the right
locations for use with the built-in Python? Or could this at least be
offered as an option?
