I don't have any experience with git, but there was a discussion on the
XEmacs development list last month that included some comparisons
between git branches and hg branches.

If I understand the complaints from the XEmacs developer, this would
definitely help.  Some sort of branch-local notation (e.g., show me
changeset N and the previous two on that branch) would be useful, too, I
gather.
