So, is it preferable on this list to answer questions in private, so
that the group cannot see them and they do not get archived?  That
is the point that boggles my mind.

Anyway, I've adjusted the message that gets sent out.  I used to not
send it and just manually added people I recognized in my spamtrap,
but I found I was missing some people when my spam load crossed the
1000-per-day threshold.  There's no burning reason to click on the
link, but usually it's easier to do that than to write some
complaint to a public forum, for an issue that few of the users of
that forum will ever encounter (since conformant mail clients also
Do The Right Thing for the trap to guess it's a message in response
to something I posted previously).

Again, sorry for the list-noise.  I'll try to always remember the
signature line below.
