I just tested it again, and it seems that this isn't even a feature issue, but 
a UI issue: 
I saw the warning "you need a secret key to unlock..." and though "damn, it 
didn't work. 

My log shows that it did work, though, so the output just led me to the false 
assumption, that it didn't work. 

Could the output be changed, so it rather says "Using gpg-agent to unlock the 
secret key ..." ?
