IIRC that's a misfeature of hgtk, which catches the gtk import error.

I'd propose "hgview --qt" to Christopher (if PyQt4 is present/easier to 
install), which seems to be a very fast, nice substitute.

Actually, the two programs look nearly identical to me, but hgview seems to be 
much faster and runs with either pygtk or PyQt4 installed.  Please point out 
any functional differences if you know better.
