Strategies for push/merge problem?

For the record, I've only outright rejected the most blatantly insane
way of doing merge-on-push: on the server. That's just an unmanageably
complex and broken idea.

Beyond that, I've yet to see one patch for what is likely about 20 lines
of cut and paste code in fetch.py, which suggests to me the folks who
understand Hg well enough to write it don't think it's a good idea or
just don't care.

(Now I'll go back to ignoring this thread until the subject line
changes.)
