obliterate functionality?

Anti-lock breaks make people drive more dangerously, but seatbelts
don't. My mercurial users check in the wrong files, and have no idea if
obliterate exists or not.

It sounds like obliterate is basically technically impossible;
changing all the names of the revisions is a non-starter. Pity.
