Opposite of Forest / Partial cloning

Hello World,

I'm looking for a possibility to clone only a part (a directory) of an 
existing repository, something like the opposite of the Forest extension

I've looked through the extensions listed in the wiki, but didn't find 
anything.

Is there an extension or what is the best practice in such a case?
