Indeed, very useful to know.  It would be useful to have this mentioned in the 
"hg qseries -h" help text.

Also, it does not seem to be possible to create an alias which includes the 
global option -v, so my features request still holds.

hg qseries also offers -m, but not -a (--all, i.e. --missing + normal).
