Difference between a bundle and a shallow clone?

Hi, 

What's the difference between a bundle and a shallow clone? 

And is that difference necessary (would it be, as soon as shallow clones 
become part of mainline Mercurial)? 

Differently put: Could partial bundles and shallow clone repositories be 
joined to simply become two different representations of repo history?
