Problem with version 1.3.2 mercurial package on Fedora

OK. Jackpot. Disabling pbranch in my .hgrc fixed the problem.
Moreover, updating my pbranch source directory to the latest version
also fixes the problem. So I'd say that the cause was a library
mismatch between the pbranch version that I had checked out and hg
version 1.3 (as you suggested).
