Mercurial wipes repository history!?

Unfortunately not at the moment (otherwise I would already have done
so!) It was a colleague and precisely what they did is not 100% clear,
but it definitely involved a repository that was not a recent clone,
and it definitely involved the repository being wiped. If I manage
to replicate it, I will certainly report back here.
