Add earlier history retroactively?

I guess you mean to manually copy and commit the changes from the
existing hg repository to the new, converted hg repository?

I thought about that too, but then I wasn't sure how to replace my old
repository with the new one (it's on googlecode, so I can't just rm -r
it).

Is there a way to entirely replace one repository with another?
